Dr. Cas, founder of Evoke 5 Medical Center, believes in the power of healthy, happy communities – and knows it takes a village to achieve that. In Dr. Cas’ Crew, we’re pleased to profile like-minded individuals and businesses that are working to create and support strong communities and healthy lifestyles.
Dr. Basheerah Ahmad is an international wellness expert, celebrity trainer and nutritionist, business and wellness consultant, and motivational speaker who helps people all over the world.
“I chose to go into the natural medicine arena because I’ve always believed that nature has the power to heal our bodies,” shared Dr. Ahmad, who is based in Midwest City, Oklahoma. “I wish that people understood that there isn’t a pill that exists that will cure all that ails you. Health is about behavior modifications, not just meds.”
In the past year, Dr. Ahmad has successfully worked with dozens of people to lose a considerable amount of weight while remaining strong and healthy in mind, body and spirit. It is work she takes very seriously, as she understands her clients are trusting her with one of the most vulnerable parts of their lives.
A big part of Dr. Ahmad’s job is motivating her clients to care enough about themselves to want to be healthy, and take the steps to get there. She herself stays motivated “because I value life, and I appreciate every moment I get to spend here.”
In working with people, Dr. Ahmad is often surprised that so many people are willing to follow health and wellness advice with no scientific evidence, and she places a high value on evidence-based practices. Part of this is staying current on new research, ideas and developments in her field. Although she already holds numerous certifications in fitness and nutrition, Dr. Ahmad challenges herself to take a new certification every quarter.
“I’ve learned so many fascinating things by adopting this process,” she said.
One of the things that concerns Dr. Ahmad is the lack of access to wellness care, as many services are not covered by insurance, making them cost prohibitive for patients. She also gets discouraged by observing how people are so negligent in taking care of their health until a doctor tells them something is wrong.
When she finds herself in a work slump, Dr. Ahmad gives herself a “timeout.” “I take a mental break for about a day so I can recharge and refocus on my mission,” she said. She also strives to give herself a couple of hours per day to focus on non-work-related endeavors that bring joy to her heart.
